2 desserts you can't miss out on this Thanksgiving

2 desserts you can't miss out on this Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is celebrated every year on the 4th Thursday of November. It's a great time to get together with family and friends, eat delicious food and just share the gratitude you feel for all the good things you have going on.

In keeping with that spirit, we thought we'd share our recipes for two of the most traditional Thanksgiving dessert recipes.

First up is pumpkin pie

An absolute must. Many believe its origins are American, but it actually comes from the Far East. Its inventor, Pam Kim, was a working man with bad luck in love. It’s said that this misfortune led him to create the delicious dessert, having always tried to make himself feel better by getting pumpkins. Here's our take on the classic recipe!

Ingredients:

1 large pumpkin to puree

A big splash of Vainilla Molina

1 1/2 cups heavy cream or whipping cream

2 eggs + the yolk of another egg

1/2 tsp lemon zest

2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp ground ginger

1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

1/4 tsp ground cloves

1/4 tsp ground cardamom

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/3 cup refined sugar

1/2 tsp fine salt

Extras:

Aluminum foil

Baking sheet

Pre-made cookie base for pie

NOTE: If you want to make your own pie base, follow the steps in the recipe below.

Directions for the puree:

  1. Cut pumpkin in half and scoop out seeds.

  2. Place pumpkin halves with the skin facing up in a baking dish and cover with aluminum foil.

  3. Bake at 350 °F for an hour to an hour and a half, until tender.

  4. Remove from oven and let cool.

  5. When at room temperature, remove the skin and blend the pumpkin to a puree.

Directions for the pie:

  1. Preheat oven to 430 °F.

  2. Mix sugars, salt, spices and lemon zest in a large bowl.

  3. Beat eggs and add to bowl.

  4. Add the puree and mix well.

  5. Add cream and a splash of Vainilla Molina, and mix well using your hands.

  6. Pour mixture over your pie base and bake for 15 minutes at 430 °F.

  7. Reduce heat to 350 °F and bake for another 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out completely clean.

  8. Let cool completely and enjoy with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

And who could forget apple pie!

Such a Thanksgiving icon! Although its origin is British and it can be made in tons of different ways, the recipe is usually shared from generation to generation within U.S. families. Here's our delicious version!

Ingredients:

3 cups wheat flour

2 tsp salt

2/3 cup butter at room temp

8 tbsp cold water

6 apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

3/4 cup sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

A big splash of Vainilla Molina

Extras:

Pie pan

Rolling pin

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 356 °F.

  1. Mix flour with salt and butter.

  1. Add cold water in spoonfuls, incorporating it until you have a uniform dough.

  1. Roll out dough with a rolling pin on a previously floured surface and then line pan with it.

  1. Cut and roll out leftover dough into long rectangular strips.

  1. Mix apples with sugar, cinnamon and a big splash of Vainilla Molina, and pour over pie crust.

  1. Place dough strips over that in a crisscross pattern and sprinkle with sugar & cinnamon.

  1. Bake for 30–50 minutes, until crust is golden brown and apples have softened.

  1. Enjoy!
